FAQs

What is microblading?

Microblading is a form of tattooing the brows where a small, disposable blade is used to deposit pigment into the skin, creating hair-like strokes. Microblading is meant to look like a natural enhancement of your brows to give them a fuller appearance. The more brow hair you have, the more natural the microblading will look.

Microblading is best for those who want a fluffy or super natural look. If you prefer the look of brow makeup, you may be better suited for a combo or powder brow.

This procedure is ideal for clients with young and normal to dry skin. For oily or mature skin, a combo brow may be a better fit.

Microblading is considered a tattoo so it will not wash off, however, it will fade over time and it is important to understand you will need a touch-up every 1-2 years to maintain your brows fresh, natural appearance.

What is Nano Brows?

Nano is similar to microblading in that it is a form of tattooing the brows to create soft, hair-like strokes. The difference is the technique, a tattoo machine and single use needle cartridge is used rather than a handheld tool. Nano is meant to look like a natural enhancement of your brows to give them a fuller appearance. The benefits of nano is it can be performed on clients who are not candidates for microblading (mature, thin skin, oily skin, large pores, sensitive skin).

What is Combo Brow?

A Combo brow is a combination of hair strokes and soft shading with a machine. This service is great for any skin type, and especially those clients with minimal natural brow hair, oily or mature skin, or those who prefer a more filled in look. I can add as much or as little soft shading depending on the desired outcome.

Just like microblading, a combo brow will fade over time and typically requires a touchup every 1-3 years.

What is soft powder brow?

A powder brow has no hair strokes and is entirely filled in with soft machine shading. It is ideal for all skin types and can be as bold or as soft and light as you prefer.

Like the other styles, it will fade over time and require touchups, however machine shading typically lasts the longest and is the best option for mature, oily, and rosacea prone skin.

They may look intense and dark immediately after the appointment, but will soften and lighten significantly as they heal.

Am I a candidate?

Please understand that not everyone is a perfect candidate for cosmetic tattooing. I do not guarantee any healed results as they vary from person to person. Skin type, lifestyle, excessive bleeding during the procedure, and aftercare will effect how you heal and retain pigment. I want my clients to have the best results possible! Do not worry about choosing a service before your appointment, we will decide which is best together after chatting about yout brow goals and skin type. This list covers the conditions that make you NOT a candidate:

-Previously microbladed/tattooed brows: you MUST email me clear photos of your brows before booking

-Under 18 years old

-Pregnant or breastfeeding

-Been on Acutane in the last 12 months (6 months with doctors note)

-Chemotherapy or radiation in the last 12 months (6 months with doctors note)

-Are currently taking any blood thinning medication (may be a candidate for powder brow with doctors note)

-Rosacea

-Freshly tanned/sunburned face

-Diabetes (I will need a doctors note)

-If you have ever had shingles on your face- tattooing the face will cause an outbreak

How long does it last?

The treatment is considered a tattoo and will not wash off, however, it will fade over time and it is important to understand you will need a touch-up every 1-3 years to maintain your brows fresh, natural appearance.

Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), and if any chemical peels, anti-aging creams, and retinol products come into contact with treated areas. Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.

The tattooed hair strokes tend to have a more crisp look once healed on dry skin, compared to more blurry strokes on oily skin. I will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your touch-up appointment and make any changes necessary. Touch-ups are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures, with each new procedure requiring 2-3 visits. The initial procedure is followed by a necessary touch-up procedure about 6-8 weeks later, and we will decide from there if a third procedure will be necessary.

How much does it cost?

The cost for microblading, combo brow, or powder brow is $550 for the first session, and $150 for the necessary 6-10 week touch-up. Saline Tattoo Removal is $100 per session. Yearly touch up fee is $400.

What factors can effect my healed results?

Scars in the brow area may not retain pigment.

If you have a pacemaker/defibrillator you are unable to get the procedure done with numbing applied, but still can get the procedure.

If you have trichotillomania (compulsive pulling of body hair) scar tissue is prominent and pigment could not heal properly on your brows.

Very oily skin & or very large pores on your forehead and brow area can cause microbladed strokes to heal more blurry, solid or not retain at all & you might be a better candidate for a soft powder/ombre brow or nano.

If you work out 5+ days a week with excessive sweating, your brows can fade faster and powder/ombre brows are suggested.

If you on thyroid medication the pigment might not take well and fade faster.

If you have Alopecia (hair loss due to autoimmune disease) Pigment might not retain well and strokes might heal more blurred and blended. Powder/ombre brows might be a better option.

Frequent sun exposure or swimming may cause them to fade quicker

Excessive Bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. Pinpoint bleeding throughout the procedure is normal, but excessive bleeding causes pigment to fade very quickly and possibly heal ashy. While bleeding is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications and alcohol 24 hours before your procedure.

I've had my brows done before, will you touch them up?

If you have had your brows done before you MUST email me clear photos of your brows in natural light with nothing on them before booking an appointment with me. Brows must be faded about 80% for me to work over them—especially if you are unhappy with the shape or color! All new-to-me clients are considered an initial session. I do not offer my touchup pricing if I did not do your initial session.

If you are unhappy with your previous brow work, you may be a good candidate for doing a few removal sessions to lighten your brows before re-doing them. email me @ JulesDoesBrows@gmail.com for details.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Preparing for your brow appointment is a necessary part of getting great healed results. Failure to follow pre-care may result in you being sent home the day of your appointment, so please read the following carefully!

-Do not work out the day of the procedure.

-Do not have a sunburned face.

-If you wax or pluck or tint your brows, it needs to be done 1 week prior to your appointment (this is not necessary as I will shape your brows if needed).

-If you use Botox, it should be performed either 2 weeks prior to your scheduled procedure or 2 weeks after your procedure.

-Fillers should be done 6 weeks prior to your scheduled procedure or 6 weeks after the procedure.

-You must be off all Retinols for 7 days prior to your appointment- the longer the better as retinol thins the skin!

-Do NOT take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil and/or Ibuprofen 24 hours prior to your procedure.  Please do NOT discontinue any of these if medically prescribed by your doctor. Tylenol is fine.

-NO ALCOHOL and NO CAFFEINE 24 hours prior to the procedure, this will minimizing bleeding and help your color retain better! This means do not drink coffee the morning of your appointment!

-No exercise for 10 days after your appointment- excess sweating as well as increased heart rate/blood flow will effect your pigment retention.

-Come to your appointment with your eyebrows penciled the way you like them (optional).

-You are welcome to come to your appointment with or without makeup on. We will be taking lots of photos, so come however you are most comfortable. I recommend no or very light eyeshadow as I will be wiping the area throughout the process.

Will I need a touchup?

Yes! All initial sessions will need to be followed up with a touchup at 6-12 weeks. This is where I will evaluate how the pigment has healed in your skin and make any necessary adjustments. I love to do natural brows, which means I am conservative with both shape & color at your first appointment! I can always go darker and bigger at your touchup appointment.

What can I expect during my appointment?

At your first appointment we will start with a consultation to discuss size, shape, color, etc. You will fill out paperwork and I will be taking before photos of your eyebrows. I will map and draw on a shape that I think looks best and works with your bone structure. This shape is an outline and acts as guideline. I will show you the shape before we begin and welcome any feedback you may have. I will not begin the service until we know that you 100% agree to shape and color. If you decide to not go through with the service for any reason, you will not owe the balance, but you will forfeit your deposit. At the end of the service we will go over aftercare, take after photos, schedule your touch up, and collect the balance owed. Your first appointment will take 2-3 hours and touchup will take 1-2 hours.

What can I expect immediately after my appointment?

Immediately after getting your brows done, you may experience minor redness or swelling around the treated area, which typically goes away within 24 hours. Over the next few hours, the pigment in the skin will oxidize, making the brows look darker and warmer (redder) than they were initially. This is normal and expected. Pigment typically fades anywhere from 20-40% once fully healed.

Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the brows. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas and can cause scarring. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once all the flaking is complete (usually around day 10), the brows will appear much lighter. The pigment will darken over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in its healed color.

At 4-6 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will asses your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and can adjust the pigment color to give you perfect brows! Once the brows have healed from your touch up appointment, you will have beautiful, full brows for 1-3 years.
